Readers will be intrigued by a world that reflects today’s troubling issues concerning ethnic inequality, unfair distribution of wealth, pollution, warfare, political corruption, and the frightening power of the media.” (Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA))

I will attach a silent flip-through video of the entire coloring book and will post some photos of this book so you can judge for yourself if it suits your needs.I was really happy to see a coloring book based on the Red Queen series. I had a little problem figuring out which scenes were which and who each of the characters were. It would have been nice if some sort of info had been printed on the back of the page to make it easier to figure out.The book is made up of 45 design pages (not including intro page.) The designs are in two separate categories which are character based scenes and sayings/quotes. Most of the designs are of characters. The sayings/quotes make up 16 of the design pages and are done is a lovely banner style in both cursive and block letters. The character designs are beautiful and elegant. They also appear to be hand-drawn which is my favorite style of coloring designs. The character designs are detailed and some have intricate and small areas to color. The sayings/quotes are open and flowing and will be fairly easy to color. I, personally, like having both in the book. The sayings/quotes pages will give me an easy “down-time†project in between the more involved character pages. This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium:45 Designs pages (including character scenes and sayings/quotes) inspired by the Red Queen seriesDesigns are printed on one side of the pagePaper is white, medium weight, ever so slightly rough (good tooth for colored pencils) and perforated pagesGlue BoundDesigns (character scenes only) cross over perforations and merge into the binding area. The sayings designs stop short of the perforations. If you break the spine (heavily crease it), you can get the book to lay fairly flat for coloring.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the pageWater-based markers and India ink pens leave shadows on the back of the pageGel pens did not bleed through but required additional drying timeColored pencils work well with the paper. It has just enough tooth to grab pigment well. I was able to layer the same color for deeper color, layer multiple colors well, and to blend easily using a blender stick. I tested both oil and wax based pencils.I use card stock as a blotter page under my working page to keep ink from seeping through to the design below. You can also simply remove pages from the book before coloring to avoid this issue.
This book is beautiful. If you are a fan of the book series as I am, this is a must buy. The quotes are very cool to color in, and the scenes are amazingly illustrated. The illustarations are definately well though out and well produced. There is plenty of room for the imagination to go wild while working. One thing is that it is a bit hard to tell what the scenes depict. Id say 40% of the time when I looked through, I was guessing at what scene it was. This, in my opinion, is a small problem. After looking at a scene and thinking back at the book I was able to identify them MOST of the time.Overall, it really is great for fans of the series.
I am a huge fan of the series so this was a must have. Honestly, I'm not big on coloring, so I don't know how the book rates on that front. But from what I can tell, the drawings are beautiful. As the previous poster noted, I too had difficulty deciphering what was going on in the scenes. It also took me a second to determine who the characters were. One thing I wish we had was a map of the Red Queen world. I know it probably isn't particularly fun to color, but I would have liked to have one here just the same. Anyway, I would say, if you are a fan of the series, you can't go wrong with this purchase.
Wow!!!! Not just for children. We fell in love with the Victoria Aveyard series, and what a better ST. VALENTINE'S DAY gift to give my daughter-in-love ( yeah, that's right...Daughter-in-Love) who is a Graphic Design Major graduate than the Official Coloring book from this series????? SHE LOVES IT. She's already completed some of the artwork, and I can't wait to see it behind the glass , in her series she's creating dedicated to Victoria Aveyard!!!
Most amazing detailed just awesome coloring book lots and lots of like sayings out of the book which is super awesome and it really helps you imagine what they want to character to look like instead of what you are Imagining the character to look like so it kind of changes the way that you read the book which is pretty sweet the only thing is is that I really wish it told you which character was which on every page because some of the characters coloring pages I just couldn't figure out who they were
This Book is totally awesome it is now one of my favorite coloring books, It is very illustrative and detailed to perfection...I've never heard of the book or coloring book and came cross looking for very illustrated books, I highly recommend this book and I will buy again!
I love the illustrations in this book and it has become one of my favorite coloring books for adults and Yvonne Gilbert has become one of my favorite artists. Just note that you may have to experiment with different pencils to find the right one for the paper in this book. My Crayolas didn't seem to do so well so I went with Prismacolors and a blender which works fine.
I’ve only colored a little in this because I’m afraid to mess it up in all honesty. However, the illustrations are really pretty and I adore the lettering and the quotes used. The only downside for me is that some of the illustrations just didn’t do it for me and we’re not really the depictions I imagined for the characters.
